Mind your ‘P’s’

151223_TSF_Post

As you know, we tend to talk a lot about a certain word beginning with the letter S and how it’s a ‘bad guy’ when it comes to our bodies and health (that would be the word ‘sugar’ if you’re still wondering). But today we’re going to talk about the letter P; because there are quite a few foods that begin with this letter that are not very good for us.

We thought we’d attempt to highlight these foods by reinventing an old nursery rhyme (apologies in advance for this!)

Peter, Peter, P-thing-eater
Pasta, Pancakes –
Then some Pizza
Pretzels, Potatoes and some Pies –
Insulin spiked, sugar highs.

What we’re trying to say is – ‘Mind your Ps’ when it comes to the food you eat. All of the things listed in our little nursery rhyme can quickly cause a spike in your blood sugar and insulin levels. When these levels drop, you’ll often feel like reaching for something sugary.

Foods like pizza and pasta also turn off the ‘fat burning’ process, which means that it can be harder for some people to lose weight when they eat too much of these kinds of foods.

Oh – and if you really want to avoid the nastiness of the letter P – make sure you think twice before eating things from Packets… they’re full of Processed Products (like breakfast cereals, low fat muffins, biscuits and muesli bars).

On a more positive note….here are some healthy options if you want to go on a P-binge:

  • Peas
  • Parsnip
  • Pumpkin
  • Prawns
  • Pomegranates
  • Pepitas
  • Pashing loved ones 🙂
